An error occurred while saving the comment This is something we're looking into now. We'll probably keep a place specific search, but we are considering adding places to the "explore" results.
Any more input from our audience would help us consider all the options.

An error occurred while saving the comment This is a good idea, and something we've thought about, generally. The problem is that the Census bureau does not provide those tables as bulk data. We could reverse engineer the computations, but then we need to develop a system for having "pseudo-tables" mixed in with official Census Bureau tables.
I think this is something which could be done, but it may have to wait until we secure more funding. It's probably just a little more involved than we can pull off in volunteer mode.

An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks for the suggestion! The large number of columns for that table (with the relative sparseness) makes it hard to do systematically for each place.
There's also the problem that showing the most common places can actually be kind of boring (see http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/culturebox/2014/05/immigration_map_what_are_the_biggest_immigrant_groups_in_your_state.html) but if we are careful, we should be able to work around that.
In general, I think the direction for this is to add some new pages for places, instead of jamming more on the current profile page. We've talked about having "detailed profile pages" for each of the major categories (demographics/economics/etc) but we could organize them around other principles as well.
For now, if you didnt know, you can click on "show the data" under the "Place of birth for foreign-born population" chart, and then click on "view table" and see what you're asking for, although not in a chart.

An error occurred while saving the comment Good idea. In short, we have only the "B" and "C" tables for the 2012 ACS release.
We don't have any DP, QT, S, R, or GCT tables. Some of those we could synthesize (in fact, our profile pages are heavily modeled off of what's included in DP01) but the Census Bureau doesn't produce those as downloadable data.

An error occurred while saving the comment Comparison across diverse products is a complicated issue. The folks at https://usa.ipums.org/usa/ have been at it for quite some time.
Given that something like 60% of US counties are not big enough to appear in the 1-year or 3-year datasets, and that there won't be a 5-year dataset fit for comparing to historic data published until 2015... it's a little hard to know how we should navigate that.
We've talked about using data from the oldest available 1-year and 3-year releases where it's applicable, but it's a tricky design question.

An error occurred while saving the comment Oh, note that the "collapsed" (C...) tables are only available for ACS 1- and 3-year releases, so you won't be able to get those specific columns for smaller areas.

There are a number of tables which count vehicles available, by household as well as by workers and by housing units. Here's a summary. Maybe we can call this out specifically on the "commute" topic help page.

Thanks for the feedback. We've seen this ourselves.
One of our ideas this summer is to offer something at the top of the suggestions which is "don't see what you need? do a full search", which would route people to a full-text search results interface.
We could include near the top of those results something like: "search for [your search string] as an address" which, when clicked, would drop them on the search-by-address interface with their query already entered.
We could add a separate "fake" result in the suggestions, "search for [...] as an address" which, if selected, would do something like the above
We could try to merge two different kinds of suggestions in one place. The suggestion library is very abstract, so it (a) should be possible and (b) may be hard!
We'll consider these, but welcome opinions for anyone who is watching.
